If you have ever moved you know the hassles of finding where you packed everything once you’ve arrived at the new house. But if you follow these simple steps your move will be much more enjoyable.
1) To begin with, you need to make an inventory list. The list is simple to make and can be done on Microsoft excel which will allow you to alphabetize the list when you are done, to make finding items easier. Be descriptive when you are creating this list because when you are searching for a spatula, several boxes marked with miscellaneous kitchen stuff will not be helpful.
2) Placing a number on the box and the identical number beside the item on the inventory list, so you will know where everything is, what has been packed and what is left to pack. It is not unheard of to forget a few things, let alone an entire closet so mark everything down.
3) When packing ensure that your children’s toys are packed last so that they are the first to come off the truck. This way when you get to the home, the kids can play and be out of the way allowing you to unpack.
4) Have plenty of moving supplies such as extra boxes, newspaper, tape, bubble paper and permanent markers. Remember that when you are using newspaper, certain prints can stain so be careful. Set aside boxes for moving day for all of your bed linens, clothes any everything you forgot to pack.
5) Try not to over pack boxes as they will only cause grief when it comes time to unload.
6) Take this opportunity to throw out, donate or sell (see garage sale tips) any unused items that clutter your house. There is no sense taking the time to pack and unpack things you will never use and plan to throw out.
7) If you plan to use a moving company, speak with them well in advance regarding the size of the boxes and how they plan to move everything. This way you can organize your belongings and know where everything is.
Make your move a pleasant one, free of stress and confusion. Be ready and don’t wait until the last minute to pack. This should be an ongoing process so that come moving day you only need to round up a few things and go.
